Mid-City Little League

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the season?
Mid-City Little League (MCLL) competes in two seasons per year.   The Spring season is our main season.  Registration begins at the beginning of November, practices begin in February, and games last from March through May.  Teams may participate in tournaments both during and after the Spring season.  Registration for our Fall season begins at the end of May, practices begin in August, and games last  from mid-September through mid November.

How do I register my child?
Information about current registration and our registration portal can be found on our Registration Page.

What programs do you offer?
A list of the levels we field teams as well as detailed descriptions of those levels can be found on Our Programs page.

What is a Little League Age?
For Little League purposes, their League Age is is determined by their age on August 31 of that season.  For assistance determining your player's age for the upcoming season, please refer to the 2026 Little League Age Chart.

Which level should I choose for my child?
Players have the most fun and improve the most when they are at a level appropriate for their safety and skills.  Generally, the levels for their League Ages are the most appropriate, though we recognize players develop differently at certain ages and may need accommodations.  Final placement at any level we be decided by MCLL to ensure players are at a level appropriate for their safety and skill levels and we have enough rosters spots at that level.

Based on my child's age, they are eligible for multiple levels.  Which should I choose?
Proper placement depends on your child's emotional maturity and baseball experience.  For League Age 6 players, if a player has no baseball experience or does not turn 6 before January 1 of the Spring season, we recommend registering for Tee Ball instead of Rookies.  For League Age 8 players, we recommend registering for Rookies instead of Minors unless your child has at least two years of experience at the Rookies level.  For League Age 10 players, we strongly recommend registering for Minors, and for League Age 12 players we strongly recommend registering for Majors.

My daughter wants to play, can I sign her up?
Of course!  All programs are co-ed and girls are welcome to play as long as they meet the safety and skill requirements of their level.

Do you offer any discounts?
Yes!  We offer a Multiple Player discount ($15 for each subsequent child you register) as well as a Fundraising Discount (full refund of registration fees for one player).  The Multiple Player discount will automatically be applied during registration.  For more information on our Fundraising Discount, please see our Sponsors page.

Do you offer financial aid?
We recognize the growing costs families face, especially when it comes to youth sports.  MCLL strives to ensure that ability to pay is not an obstacle to playing baseball and that no child is turned away due to an inability to pay.  Due to our generous sponsors, we are able to keep our registrations costs low.  Our registration fees are typically the lowest in San Diego and are regularly half the cost of other leagues.  If you need additional help covering the registration fee, please reach out  to us and we will see what funds we have to help.

Is my child eligible to play at MCLL?
Eligibility can be established if your home address or child's school is within MCLL boundaries.  Also, beginning in 2025, players League Age 4-7 are welcome to play in any league they wish and can continue in that league as long as they maintain continuous registration in that league.  For additional information, please see our Eligibility page.

Does my child need to tryout?
Assessments are held in early January to ensure players are at the proper level.  Assessments are not needed for Tee Ball.  Assessments will be held for Rookies players to ensure they will be safe at that level and to attempt to make teams as even as possible.  Players will not be turned away from Rookies for skill reasons, but may be moved to Tee Ball if they are age appropriate.  Assessments are required for all players at the Minors, Majors, Intermediate, and Juniors levels.

What does the registration fee include?
MCLL will provide all players a jersey and hat.  For the Spring season, the registration fee also includes a picture package and end of the season trophy.
